OBITUARY taken from the British Medical Journal
Dr Alfred George Wilkinson, a medical practitioner of Northampton, died on September 15th aged 88. He took the diplomas of M.R.C.s. Eng and L.S.A. While still a student he went to the Crimea as a volunteer, and worked with Florence Nightengale. He assisted in attending the wounded after the charge of the Light Brigade. Dr Wilkinson settled in practice in Northampton in 1870 (?), and he continued at work until a few days before his death.

OBITUARY taken from the British Medical Journal
Dr Alfred George Wilkinson, a medical practitioner of Northampton, died on September 15th aged 88. He took the diplomas of M.R.C.s. Eng and L.S.A. While still a student he went to the Crimea as a volunteer, and worked with Florence Nightengale. He assisted in attending the wounded after the charge of the Light Brigade. Dr Wilkinson settled in practice in Northampton in 1870, and he continued at work until a few days before his death.

Ancestry - Helens Roots
It is possible that William Henry, (Alfred George's son) was destined for the 'Medical Profession', being the eldest son. However, neither he or a Brother lived upto expectations, thus the family tradition died out. However, when Arthur Clement was born (son of Arthur Octavius), his Grandfather Alfred George, put forward the suggestion that he was willing to pay for Arthur Clement's education, if his parents would consider his eventual entry into the medical profession. This they were unwilling to do, because it would have meant him being parted from them at an early age.
