SMH 16 Oct 1924 OBITUARY.
LIONEL GEORGE MACARTHUR.
The death of Lionel George MacArthur as the result of a motor accident, which occurred while he was driving alone over Maxwelton in Northern Queensland, of which station he was manager for the Australian and New Zealand Land Company, removes a member of probably the oldest pioneer family in Australia. His little son, George Hannibal MacArthur (aged 13) is the last of the line. The deceased also leaves a daughter, Dora, named after her aunt, Dora Ohlfsen, the Australian sculptress, now residing in Rome, the widow being Kate Ohlfsen-Bagge. Lionel MacArthur was the son of Captain George Hannibal MacArthur, R.N., and was born at King's School, Parramatta, where his grandfather, the Rev. George Fairfowl MacArthur, resided as headmaster. One great-grandfather of the deceased was Governor Phillip King. His great-granduncle first introduced sheep into Australia. The children are for the present in the care of their uncle and aunt, Mr. and Mrs. Charles L. Hume, Castlesteads, Boorowa in this State.
