Ann Guy, nee Hinchley, arrived at Port Jackson as a convict aboard the "Mary Ann" with the Third Fleet on the 9th. July 1791. She had been tried and convicted at Old Bailey in London, Middlesex, England, of theft November 26, 1789 and sentenced to 7 years transportation. Soon after arriving at Port Jackson Ann met Thomas Akers, a convict on the "Charlotte" in the First Fleet which arrived in 1788. On 25th. September 1792, she gave birth to a daughter, whom she called Mary Ann. on 7th. January 1793, Mary Ann was baptised in the Church of England at Sydney Cove, with the name Mary Guy being shown on the original handwritten records. Her father is shown as Thomas Acres and her mother, Ann Guy. |
