Personal Notes:
In 1862 Patrick and Edward Kiley selected land at Brungle Creek. They continued to acquire properties from other settlers until they had an area of 10,000 acres on which they bred horses, cattle, and sheep. They then took over their father's old run and changed the name to "Red Hill".

In 1875 Patrick Kiley married the eldest daughter of John Madigan, the owner of the Queen's Arms Hotel (now called the Oriental Hotel).

On 16 November 1889 Red Hill was submitted for sale by auction by E.G Brown, Stock and Station Agent. It was purchased by Patrick Kiley for £17,950.

Patrick Kiley then cleared the property which was heavily timbered, and had it highly improved. It was later sold to Frederick Campbell. Patrick Kiley died on 11 November 1917 aged 75 years.

OBITUARY. Having had such a heavy demand on our time to attend to various patriotic movements that have been going on of late, and the space of our paper having been taken up with reports on numerous speeches delivered, we were not able at an earlier period than now to refer to the sad death of Patrick Kiley, Esq. J.P., which occurred at a private hospital at Cootamundra, on Dec. 11th. The melancholy tidings caused quite a shock on being received in Tumut, where the deceased was one of the best known and most honored citizens that had ever resided here. The famous Red Hill Station was founded by the deceased, who took the area up under the Robertson Land Act. It was densely timbered then, but the late Mr. P. Kiley, after a display of energy and perseverance that did him infinite credit, changed the appearance of the place, and when he sold the fine property to Fred. Campbell, Esq., it was looked upon as one of the best improved holdings in the district. In 1875 the subject of our obituary was married to the third eldest daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. John Madigan, the result of the union being four sons, viz.: William (Waverley, Sydney), Patrick (overseer of Boppy Station, Cobar), John Richard, of Darah, and Louis Phillippe (Darah), and five daughers, viz : Misses Josephine and Nellie (Darah and Waverley), Mrs Westrop ("Evans," Cootamundra) Miss Madeline (Waverley) and Miss Veronica Lucy (nurse at St. Vincent's Hospital, Darlinghurst). Six years ago the deceased was unfortunate in losing by death the partner of his life, which proved a sad blow to him and members of the family. After selling out at Red Hill they took up their abode at Waverley, but just lately the fine property of"Kilrush," 3000 acres near Cootamundra, was purchased by our departed friend, and he and the family were looking fo ward with pleasurable anticipations of occupying a beautiful home that was being prepared there for them; but fate willed otherwise. The first indication of illness was a severe headache a week previous to the death taking place. At first little notice was taken of it, but as it continued Dr. Brennan was called in, and, finfdig there were serious symptoms, recommended the patient to be taken to a private hospital, where the best attention possible was given to the case. The ailment, turned out to be an affection of the kidneys, and an operation was spoken of, but this was thought inadvisable at deceased's advanced age. His remains were conveyed to the cathedral in Cootamundra, where a Requiem for the repose of his soul was celebrated. Then a cortege of a large number of friends followed the hearse to the railway station, and many came on to Tumut, when Mr. James Elphick was in readiness with his hearse, and took the coffin to the Roman Catholic Church where it remained till 3 p.m. Friends attended from long distances to be at the graveside. Masses were offered both in Tumut and Cootamundra chapels. As the solemn procession left the church Mrs. P. Madigan played the "Dead March in Saul" and the bell tolled. The coffin was re-doposited in the hearse and Mr. J. Elphick saw to the final mortuary arrangements, the remains being interred alongside those of his wife in the Roman Catholic portion of the old cemetery. Rev. Father. Lehane, assisted by Frs. Devine and Barry (Cootamundra) officiated at the grave. The pallbearers were Messrs. Edward and Maurice Kiley (deceased's brothers) and Messrs. John, Frank, Patrick and Louis (sons). The departed leaves behind him three brothers. (Edward, of Cleveland-st., Yass, and Matthew and Maurice, of Spring Ck.). Two brothers (William and James) and two sisters (Mrs. John Richardson, who died in Lewisham Hospital, and Mrs. H. French, sr., of Brungle) predeceased him. The relatives are left to mourn the irreparable loss of a kind and trusty brother and a fond father ever bent on his children's welfare.
