Personal Notes:
On 30 Oct 1936 Thelma Frances born 28 Jun 1911 wed Walter Christopher BOURKE, a methods engineer (time and motion study) with the Commonwealth Bank. In 1956 Thelma, Walter and the four children moved to New Guinea where Walter managed Mainguard's cutch factory. Cutch is an adhesive derived from mangroves and used in tanning leather, and for fishing nets.

For a year they lived on an island in the Gulf of Papua, about half way between Port Moresby on the eastern side and Darn on the west. Two-way radio kept them in contact with the outside world and supplies were flown in fortnightly to Kikori. This required a trip by unreliable launch or canoe to the north coast of the Gulf then 15 miles up river to collect the goods.

Back in Australia they moved to Thirroul where Mrs Bourke Snr lived and Walter worked with Lysaghts and Eric Anderson's. He died 07 Mar 1970 at Thirroul; Thelma died at Bulli on 04 Jul 1996. They are buried together at Scarborough Cemetery.
