Personal Notes:
Thomas McReynolds was probably born about 1825 and inherited a large part of his father's farm holdings in Edernagh and other surrounding townlands. In the Griffith Valuation of about 1860, Thomas is recorded as holding a large house (worth 22 pounds), outbuildings, a cornmill, a kiln and about 60 acres of land in the townland of Edernagh. The landowner is the Rev. James Jones. He also holds a caretaker's house and has sublet three small houses to Kennedy Doogan, Patrick Leonard and Thomas Corran. On Jan.9, 1850, Thomas McReynolds, a full-aged bachelor farmer of Edernagh, was married in the Parish Church of Artrea to Jane McReynolds, minor spinster of Ballymaguire. Jane was the daughter of Thomas McReynolds of Ballymaguire (see above and below). Jane was born about 1830 since she was 71 at the time of the 1901 Census. Thomas and Jane had a number of children listed below. In the years 1859/60/61 extensive repairs were made to the Artrea Parish Church and Thomas McReynolds of Edernagh made substantial contributions. In 1859/60 he gave three pounds and fifteen shillings toward repairs; in 1859/60 he gave one pound toward lighting of the church. In Slater's Directory for 1856 and in the Ulster Directories for 1863/64 and 1880, Thomas McReynolds of Kingsmill is included in a list of the gentry of Stewartstown, County Tyrone. There is also a lease dated 1875/76 in which Thomas McReynolds leases lands in Edernagh and Enniskillen from the estate of John G. Dunbar of Artrea. Thomas McReynolds of Kingsmill was also a member of the select vestry of the Parish of Artrea during the 1870s, 1880s and 1890s. He died in 1894 and the 1901 Census lists the 71-year-old widow Jane McReynolds as living in Edernagh with her daughter Anne. They are listed as Church of Ireland. Both Thomas and Jane are interred in Ballyclog cemetery.
