Townsville Daily Bulletin 8 Feb 1939 "WEDDINGS. STEEN— HALL. A very pretty wedding took place at 3 p.m. at St. James' Cathedral on Monday, 30th January, officiated by Canon Cue, when Joyce, youngest daughter of Mr. and Mrs. H. Hall, Gordon Street, Bowen, was joined in the bonds of holy matrimony to Robert M. Steen, youngest son ot Mr. and Mrs. F. Steen. Powell Street, Bowen. In the absence of her father the bride entered the church on the arm of her brother-in-law, Mr. Phil West. She was daintly frovked in a gown of white Swiss patterned organdi featuring an uplift bodloe, the puffed sleeves finished with a point on the hand with buttons from elbow to wrist A spray of the lilies of valley was worn on the corsage; the panel skirt moulded to the hips, flared gracefully to the hemline, and finished with a train. The tulle veil worn halo effect threaded with orange blossom was kindly lent by Mrs. H. Carvolth, a friend of the bride. Her bouquet was composed of gerberas, stephanotis and maiden hair fern, tied with ribbon. A satin horseshoe was presented to the bride on entering the church. She was attended by a close friend, Miss Edith Pope, who chose shell pink broderle anglaise organdi featuring an uplift bodice with a spray of pink daisies on the corsage. The bouffante skirt was finished with a sash of pink mariette. A large pink crinoline hat and a bouquet of pink gerberas and roses completed her ensemble. The bridegroom was attended by his cousin, Mr. J. Reid. Tbe guests entertained at the reception were received by Mrs F. Steen and Mrs. R. Hall (who acted as hostess in the absence of the bride's mother). The beautiful 3-tlered wed ding cake (the work of Mrs. W. Ryan, Merinda) held pride of place at the table. The happy couple received many telegrams of congratulations Only close relatives attended the reception." |
