Personal Notes:
William James Beattie whose father came from Wales and his mother from Scotland, was born in Goulburn. He came to Tumut and in 1878 married Isabella Sarah Butler of Gilmore. In 1881, William James Beattie purchased a farming property at Windowie from a Mr. J. Spiers who had acquired it from Thomas Boyd, a member of the Hume and Hovell expedition who had settled on the Gilmore
Creek in 1832.

A few years later William James Beattie bought an adjoining 100 acres on the Gilmore Creek from a Mr. Crouch (who had married one of Boyd‘s daughters) and continued to add to his freehold properties. The old farm is now (in 1.967) ownedby a Mr. Kelly. The Beattie family lived on the farm for the remainder of their lives. They had a family of eight sons and six daughters.
