Personal Notes:
William came to Tasmania as a convict. He was born in Newington, London about 1819 and transported to Tasmania in 1841 - for 7 years. He married Mary Evans in 1849 in Melbourne. She came out earlier the same year as an Irish famine orphan. We know she was born in Cork, Ireland from the information on her children's birth certificates. (On the shipping records for her, no parents names are recorded). By the time they left Victoria in 1865 they had 7 children, Elizabeth being the 4th child. She is listed on the next 6 birth certificates as a child born previously. Along with her 3 sisters at the time they were placed in the Randwick Benevolent Society having been deserted by their father and the mother unable to support them. Then 3 months later they were collected by their father William and the family moved to Brisbane, then Maryborough then finally Rockhampton where their last child was born. When they left Victoria they also left the 3rd child behind. His name was Edward.
