- Notes: Thomas (Eric) Collins, studied engineering at Uni of Qld in the 1920’s and attended St Johns College whilst studying.

Eric was the first member of his pioneering family to attend university; he probably would not have done so, had he not been deaf by the age of 4. His family lived at Spring Creek station in Nth Qld and knew that a remote cattle station was no place for a deaf child. They sent him to Brisbane for education at a specialist deaf school in early primary school; he proved to be academic, and went on to complete his school years as a boarder at Brisbane Church of England Grammar School, and then an engineering degree at UQ. For the rest of his life he visited the family cattle stations and remained a partner in Collins Bros business, but made a life elsewhere as an engineer. He married a fellow UQ student, Nora Holdsworth, and completed a PhD at Oxford university, before they returned to live and work in Sydney. In his retirement Eric became a keen historian and began collating information for a family history. Before this was complete he died 24.08.1994
