The son of William and Elizabeth nee Hoskins Commons, William married Elizabeth nee Polkinghorne on 14 Feb 1857 in Cubert, Cornwall, England. Shortly after the wedding, the couple emigrated to the colony. Traveling as assisted immigrants they arrived in Port Jackson, Sydney on 24 Jul 1857 on the ship "Tartar".
William and Grace had 11 (eleven), children, Charles, William, Susan Ann, Mary Jane, Isabella Rosie, Amy Victoria, Arthur H., Elizabeth, John Joseph, Eliza Grace, and Lavenia.
