William Smiles came to the district with his brother James in 1840. They were the original owners of Jeremiah Station which adjoins Gobarralong. At this time William also became associated with William Lowther in grazing pursuits.
About 1842 William Smiles went to live at Gilmore. He married Ann Maria Davis (at St Lukes, Liverpool NSW, 12 May 1845). William then secured the property known as Rose Vale on the Gilmore Creek in the Parish of Gadara. In his Will dated February 1872, William Smiles bequeathed his estate to his Wife and his daughter, and his ten sons. |
