The Tumut and Adelong Times 4 Jan 1938
OBITUARY WILLIAM JAMES THORPE The death occurred in a Sydney hospital on Wednesday last of Mr. William J. Thorpe, of Coogeo. Deceased was the eldest son of the late James Thorpe, of Tumut and Adelong and of Mrs. A. Lynch, Bankstown. The first intimation of his illness was received by wire to his sister (Mrs. P. L. O'Sullivan) at 11 o'clock that day stating that he had taken a seizure and his condition was serious. Another telegram at 3 p.m. announced his death. He was born at Tumut 49 years ago, in the residence in Capper-st. now the property, of Miss E. R. Bridle. Early in life, with his parents, he removed to Adelong, where his father died over 25 years ago. He afterwards went to Wagga where he married Miss Mary Hounsell. Deceased was a plasterer by trade, serving his apprenticeship with the late F. A. McGruer. He remained at Wagga for a number of years, eventually going to Sydney. The survivors are the aged mother, a wife, two daughters (Doreen and Joyce), one son (Freddie), two sisters (Adell, Mrs. E. J. Power, Lakemba, and Ethel, Mrs. P. L. O'Sullivan, Tumut), and one brother (Albert, North Sydney). The remains were interred in the Waverley Cemetery on Thursday. |
