- Notes: The McIntyre family earned a reputation for efficient wheat-growing and extensively introduced machinery, advertising that they would hire it to farmers of the district. Their threshing machine was described in 1873 as an excellent adaptation... which does an infinity of work in a capital way, imported at considerable expense by Mr William
McEntyre of Oura... The machine... performs the functions not only of threshing the grain, but also separating and cleaning it, and is the only one of the kind in the colonies. It is worked by ten horses and nine men, and... can clean and thresh 80 bushels per hour... The whole machinery... is easily set to work within thirty minutes of its arrival at any place where it may be required. A few months later both William McIntyre and George Mulholland, also of Oura, imported new reaping machines from Victoria, further proving the initiative of farmers in their neighbourhood.

William McIntyre and his family came to the colony from County Tyrone in 1854 and settled first at Picton, from whence they moved to Wagga Wagga in 1865 and selected land six miles out on the Oura road at Glenfield. 72 The soil was rich and William and his sons were industrious and progressive farmers, so they were immediately successful.
William McIntyre quickly became a force in local affairs. He was appointed a justice of the peace and a member of the local hospital committee in 1870; was one of the directors of the Wagga Wagga Sugar Company in 1871, one of the two credited with some knowledge; convened meetings to complain about the proposed Land Bill in 1872; and was prominent in the Free Selectors Association in 1874 and succeeding years.
