Her true name was Bessie and only Bessie. It was the name her father listed her, as she signed herself and the name on legal documents.
Second of four wives of W. H. Barnard, Bessie Lynn, seventh child and sixth daughter of the eleven children of Adam Loftus Lynn and Marianne Beers Ferres. born on 7 November 1845, at "St Kerins", Salt Mills, Co. Wexford, Ireland. died in child birth of her ninth child, on 3 September 1881; the child died, interred in Old Cemetery as Bessie, 5 September 1881, Area BN, Section 13, Grave 1, with her husband and with the child, who died with her and a number of others of the Barnard family,inc his other three wives, died intestate, leaving an estate valued at $873, principally in the form of a shop and dwelling in Dana Street, possibly Adam Loftus Lynn’s original prefabricated home, Letters of Administration granted to her husband, migrated to Australia in 1850, with Adam Loftus Lynn, his wife, Marianne Beers nee Ferres [was Faries], and her brothers and sisters, except of course, the last boy, Charles, married in 23 April 1867, aged 21, he aged about 37, as the second of the four wives of William Henry Barnard, issue was four daughters and three sons, all born in Ballarat, others claim her name as Elizabeth, or Eliza, however, Bessie is in the Index to the VBDM for seven of her children and for her death, it is Bessie in various newspaper Legal Notices and death notices, it is Bessie in documents accessed through the PROV site, but in the VBDM for the death of Gertrude Marie the name of her mother is given as Elizabeth Marie Lyon, death entry in the VBDM Index gives her mother’s surname incorrectly as Ferris. [Properly Ferres], her children were: 1 Arthur Herbert Barnard, 2 Henry Lynn Barnard, 3 Edith Ruth Barnard, 4 Gertrude Marie Barnard, 5 Dora Barnard, 6 Paul Vernon Barnard, 7 Evan William Barnard, 8 Octavia Barnard, 9 Son, still born Star, 20/7/1901, IN the SUPREME COURT of the STATE of VICTORIA: In its Probate Jurisdiction-in the Estate of BESSIE BARNARD, Late of Ballarat, in the State of Victoria, Married Woman, Deceased, Intestate- Notice is hereby given, that after the expiration of fourteen days from the publication hereof application will be made to the Supreme Court of the State of Victoria, in its Probate jurisdiction, that LETTERS of ADMINISTRATION of the estate of the above named deceased, left un-administered by William Henry Barnard, her husband, and the administrator of her estate, but now deceased, may be granted 1o THE BALLARAT TRUSTEES, EXECUTORS, mid AGENCY COMPANY LIMITED, of Camp street, Ballarat aforesaid, such company having been duly authorized and empowered by Henry Lynn Barnard, of Menzies, in the state of Western Australia, agent, the eldest surviving son of the paid intestate, to apply for and obtain such administration. [This would seem to Centre about real estate owned by Bessie and to be the shop and dwelling in Dana Street].
