Personal Notes:
Bridget’s child (Gordon James Dudley) has no father listed on his birth certificate. DNA testing by his ancestors has hits from three descendants of the family of Patrick Doyle and Ellen Butcher of Bungendore. Bridget would have become pregnant in September 1902. At that time she was woking as a cook at Mandelson’s Hotel in Goulburn. Any of the sons of Patrick and Ellen Doyle (except the one who died in infancy) could be the father. Women with an illegitimate child sometimes make reference to the father in the child’s name. None of Patrick and Ellen’s sons are called Gordon or Dudley. It is unclear where those names come from. However, two of Patrick and Ellen’s grandsons have those names and would have been born before Gordon James Dudley’s second birth certificate was issued. But then again, the DNA could have come from Ellen Butcher’s side further back. We do not know. Bridget kept the father’s name secret and I can only speculate.
