Personal Notes:
Charles Dean arrived in 1854. In 1857 he commenced making bricks at Tumut. Bricks were used to build the first Church of England in 1857 and the first Catholic Church in 1858. He had a brick-making yard close to the first Flour Mill which was afterwards Dr. Mason's Mill Dairy.

The death of his infant daughter Amelia Dean, aged 8 days, was the first death to be registered at the Court House, when registrations became necessary by law.
