| - Notes: Charles Sylvester Byrne was born at Campbelltown in 1846. His parents had come to Australia in 1802 and settled on the land at Campbelltown. Charles was educated at Lyndhurst College and afterwards became a cattle drover in Queensland.
ln 1872 Charles Sylvester Byrne married Mary Ann Burke in Melbourne. She was the daughter of Robert Burke. They had three sons; > Frederick Byrne, > Charles Byrne, > Gladstone Byrne who was killed in the First World War. They also had two daughters; > Roberta Byrne (married Valentine Osborne), > Barbara Byrne (married John Egan). Charles and his family came to Tumut in 1886 and commenced business as a Stock and Station Agent. Charles Byrne was a member of the P. & A. Society and a Committeeman of the Jockey Club. |
