COOKARDINIA.
(FROM OUR OWN CORRESPONDENT.)
The monthly meeting of the Progress Committee, which was announced for the 26th inst., was postponed (owing to the sad and unexpected death of Mr. Watson's fourth daughter) until Saturday, October 11th, at 8 p.m., at Mr. Nolan's. Quite a gloom was cast over this neighbour-hood on Friday last, when the sad news reached here that Mr William Watson's fourth daughter, Florence, died in Germanton. She was only ailing for a few days prior to death. Deep sympathy is expressed by all who knew her for the bereaved parents and family, as dear Florrie was a general favourite with all, both in school as a school mate, at home, and abroad. The body was interred in the Cookardinia cemetery on Sunday. The Rev. Mr Bean conducted the burial service, which was very solemn and impressive. The funeral was the largest ever seen in this district, there being 38 vehicles and 42 horsemen, besides a number on foot who came to the cemetery. As the Rev. Mr. Bean's time was limited on Sunday, he having to conduct Divine service at Little Billabong at 3 p.m., it necessitated his dispensing with an address at the grave, and he will (D.V.) conduct Divine service, also an address on her death on Sunday, 12th October, in the church at Cookardinia. It is to be hoped that there will be a good attendance, more especially of the young people, as the occasion is a very opportune one, and no doubt the address will be very suitable and impressive. Although I specially mention the attendance of the young, the occasion is just as opportune for the older people, as death is a debt we all have to pay, sooner or later. Therefore, it behoves us to be always prepared to meet it, for we know not what a day or an hour may bring forth.
