OBITUARY MR. GEORGE HOLM No person in the Gundagai district was held in higher esteem than the late Mr. George Holm, of Jugiong, who, at the age of 72 years, died on Thursday week last. Deceased had been in ill-health for some consider able time, and although his passing was not unexpected it came as a shock to his family as he was in particularly good spirits on the Thurs day morning. A native of Denmark, deceased came to Australia many years ago. Possessing a most likeable disposi tion, he readily adapted himself to the conditions of his new land and proved himself amongst the best citiz ens ever to domicile in these parts. About 40 years ago deceased first made his acquaintance with the Gun dagai district, and became a very successful contractor, working on the eradication of rabbits on many of the properties in the Shire. In the 1920's he took over the licence of the Criterion Hotel at Gundagai and developed into one of the leading hotelkeepers. Later he transferred to the Hume Hotel at South Gundagai. It was whilst ho was associated with the business life of Gundagai that the late George Holm came to be widely known and respected for his broad outlook, hon esty and sincerity of purpose. A keen townsman, he took an active interest in local affairs and was al ways prompt in giving assistance to the worthy cause. Some few years ago deceased took over the management of the Jugiong Hotel, where he remained until the time of his death. Deceased married a member of the well-known Sheahan family (Mar garet) who, together with her two sons, Lance and William, and dau ghter Cath. (Mrs. Aub. Coggan) mourn the loss of a devoted husband and loving father.
