MRS. K. C. HUGHES The death occurred at St. John of God Hospital yesterday morning of Mrs. Kate Christina Hughes, aged 89, a life-long residentof Goulburn. Born at sea while travelling from England to Australia, Mrs. Hughes came to Goulburn to reside at an early age and had since lived in this city, where she was well-known and respected. Despite her age she was favoured with good health, and it was only in recent weeks that she be- came seriously ill. A devout Catholic, Mrs Hughes was a member of the Sacred Heart Sodality and took a keen interest in the activities of her church. She is survived by two sons, Ed- ward (Guildford) and Thomas (Fair- field). Her husband, the late Thomas Hughes, predeceased her by six years. The funeral will leave SS. Peter and Paul's Cathedral at 3 .30 this after- noon or the Catholic Cemetery at Kenmore. |

I mentioned previously in Noah & Margaret Cheeseman information; that in 1882 after Noah had passed away, that Margaret took on (I said Kate's) illegitimate son - now I'm questioning myself. BARRETT Melbourne J 26885/1882 no father mother Catherine Queanbeyan Died: 6007/Jan1959 He was raised by Margaret Cheeseman as Joseph William Cheeseman On his death Reg. states Father: Noah Mother: unknown My quandary now is if there actually was a Catherine Barrett born 1858 was this her illegitimate son that Margaret took on. This Melbourne Joseph who became Joseph William is recent news to us as a Cheeseman descendant enquired as to whether Kate Barrett could possibly be the mother as on some of our HUGHES Family Trees, Kate is named as Catherine as well as Kate - and who knows where that started?? That's why I enquired as to Catherine Barrett 1858 if it was a Birth or Baptism. So until I hear further from Cheeseman Family my jury is out but I do believe Kate Christina Barrett/Hughes is Cressy.
