Personal Notes:
He was awarded the DFC (Distinguished Flying Cross) on 23 July 1943 for gallantry in air operations in Europe and the Middle East, when he was Acting Flight Lieutenant. His address was Tanby, via Rockhampton, Queensland. He ended military service on 25 January 1946.

D.F.C. FOR TANBY PILOT
MELBOURNE, July 26.-Acting Flight-Lieut David Hugh Hannah of Tanby, via Rockhampton, has been awarded the DFC for gallantry in air operations in Europe and the Middle East. Announcing this tonight, the Minister for Air (Mr Drakeford) said that Hannah was an excellent leader of high courage and devotion to duty and had led his flight efficiently. Hannah's aircraft was badly damaged by anti-aircraft fire. On reaching friendly territory he ordered his crew to bale out. At he was unable to communicate with his observer Hannah remained with his comrade and made a successful forced landing.
