- Notes: Precisely eight weeks after the First Fleet arrived in Botany Bay, Deborah
Bowcher was baptised on 23 Api 1788 and wed Edward Randle TURPIN 1797 at St
Petrock, Exeter on 15 Sep 1827. Edward, who was a carpenter and almost nine
years younger than his wife, came from 'quite distant' Berry Pomeroy near Tomes
in the south-east of Devon; they were still there at the 1861 census. As Deborah
was nearly middle aged at marriage, it is doubtful whether they had a family.

She was also 30 years his junior and likely to be a niece. She was the daughter of William and Elizabeth Chown (nee Chown), baptised in Alphington on the 7th February 1818.
