The Tumut and Adelong Times 29 Jun 1926
SHEPARDSTOWN. Death of Mr. E. Skerry. Mr. Edward Skerry died at his residence, Shepardstown, on Sunday morning. Deceased had been failing in health for the last seven years and a fortnight ago was seized with pneumonia, from which he recovered, only to succumb from heart failure. The subject of this obituary was born at Ballarat in 1858 and came to Shepardstown fifty years ago to follow mining. He married Miss Ellen Kennedy, daughter of the late Michael and Catherine Kennedy, of Shepardstown, in 1859 [sic should be 1879], by whom he had eight children, Fred., Elizabeth, James being deceased. The children surviving are Mrs. B. Contessa of Shepardstown, Edward of Batlow, Thomas, Cyril and Mrs. Teresa Corkhill of Canberra. The late Mr. Skerry was one of the earliest members of the M.U. Oddfellows in Adelong, and resided in Shepardstown the whole of his married life, where he was highly esteemed as a quiet inoffensive man, a good father and husband. All the members of his family were with him during his last illness, through which he was nursed by his faithful and affectionate wife. The funeral took place on Monday, Rev. Fr. Devine officiating at the graveside in Adelong Cemetery . |
