| - Notes: The death occurred recently of Mr. Edward Murphy, one of the best-known and respected residents of Murrumburrah, whose name has been closely associated with the industrial, agricultural and pastoral development of the district for many years past.
The death took place at his residence, 'Collingwood,' after an illness of very short duration, the cause being Bright 's disease. Deceased was a man of splendid physique and energy, and possessed in a remarkable degree the courage which carried him successfully through his strenuous pioneering days. To his personal energy is due the beautiful appearance of the Collingwood estate, which at the time it came into Mr. Murphy's possession was virgin bush. Quite recently he purchased 'The Meadows' and 'Glen Taggart,' which he formed into the Collingwood Company. Deceased was a councillor of the Demondrille Shire. He was a man of generous impulses, a devoted husband and father, and a sincere friend. He was a staunch Catholic, and was always ready to help along any movement for the advancement of his own and other parishes. He leaves a widow and a large family of sons and daughters to mourn his loss. The remains were interred in the Catholic portion of the Murrumburrah cemetery on Christmas Eve, a large cortege of friends and relatives attending the funeral. The prayers at the graveside were recited by the Rev. Father 0 'Shea.— R.I.P. The Catholic Press (Sydney, NSW : 1895 - 1942) Thursday 15 January 1914 p 29 Article |
