OBITUARY. FRANCIS LOUIS SIITH. We regret to announce the death of Mr. Francis Louis Smith, which took place at his mother's residence, Queanbeyan, at an early hour this morning. Some six weeks ago, deceased was taken seriously ill, but under the care of Dr. Richardson, he recovered sufficiently to resume his accustomed duties and his friends did not anticipate any further trouble. About a month ago, however, very serious symptoms manifested themselves and the illness terminated fatally as stated, the cause of death being a rupture of a hydatid cyst. Deceased was the eldest son of the late Mr. F. L. Smith who was for many years miller for the late Mr. J. J. Wright and was born in Queanbeyan 29 years ago. After leaving school, he was for a time in the office of Mr. Lilley of the Queanbeyan Times. Leaving there, he served his time as a grocer and was for many years in the employment of Messrs. Hayes & Russell, by whom he was much esteemed as a capable and industrious assistant. Early this morning, the Christ Church bell was tolled and general regret was expressed when it be came known that Mr. Smith was dead. The deceased was held in universal respect for his many excellent qualities and in the circle of his immediate friends, he will be greatly regretted. In his business capacity, Mr. Smith was uniformly courteous and obliging and the many people who were brought into daily contact with him will miss his familiar figure. The funeral will take place on Sunday afternoon in the Church of England portion of the general cemetery. The ceremony will be performed by the Rev. P. G. Smith, late rector of Canberra. The deceased's mother was the first child baptised by Mr. Smith after his arrival in Australia and he also christened the subject of our notice. To the bereaved mother and family we offer our most heartfelt sympathy. The conduct of the funeral will be in ths hands of Mr. H. Lazarus.
