| - Notes: Architects and surveyors were in demand in a town where subdivision and building were only just keeping pace with rapidly growing population and in a district where pastoral properties were being surveyed for selection and purchase. George Commins, of Irish extraction but born in Picton in 1842, arrived in 1866 and established himself as a licensed surveyor, practising until about the 1920s. Apart from his professional work he was prominent in community life, was with his wife one of those who established an Agricultural and Horticultural Society in 1871, and farmed at Springfield, North Wagga Wagga for many years. |
