Personal Notes:
Henry Hilton was in Tumut in 1847, probably much earlier. At one period he was acting Postmaster and also schoolteacher.

In 1847 the Government Gazette on pages 223 and 481 respectively, show that Henry Hilton was appointed a Bailiff of the Court and also Chief Constable. His third daughter married James E. Madigan, licensee of the Queen‘s Arms Hotel in 1879. His son, William Henry Hilton was the first Town Clerk to be appointed in Tumut and held office continually from 1887 to 1907. After leaving Tumut he became Town Clerk at Junee. Later he was licensee of an hotel at Armidale. He died at Haberfield on 8 July 1911

Henry's will was subject to a Supreme court challenge between his son, William Henry (defendant) and the other children in the case "Madigan vs Hilton", heard by Justice Manning.
