Hugh McLeary was born in Londonderry, Ireland and came to the Kiandra gold rush in 1860. Coming from there to Tumut he held the licence for the hotel that stood on the bank of the Tumut River on the Tumut Plains side of Shelley's Bridge.
In 1862 he married Mrs. Mary Malone, the widow of Edward Malone who was drowned in the river in 1860. Hugh McLeary died on 12 December 1913. |
