GRAY or GREY spelt both ways - beware.
See William Grey (1825) notes for Isabella's census notes. Born in Percy Square, Tynemouth. Name GREY Marriage certificate shows living at Westgate Road. Name GREY? 1881 Census record shows her as unmarried 'domestic servant' in the house of Willian Gray (her father) at 45 Percy St, Tynemouth, Northumberland, England. (just before her marriage.) Died in ambulance on way to hospital. Post morteum carried out 12.8.1934 Death certificate says 50 years in Qld. So arrived Qld about 1884. 1882/3 passenger list for 'Oban Bay' shows William (aged 30) and Isabella (aged 24) Bell with 'Free' passage. Qld Passenger lists (http://members.iinet.net.au/~perthdps@iinet.net.au/shipping/mig-qld3.htm) shows: OBAN BAY Arrived 19/07/1883 in Townsville departed Glasgow 20/03/1883 fiche PL M1699 (imm/178) Lived Hodgkinson Street, Chaters Towers Note: William and Isabella lived in a tent for a while before they got themselves organised into a mine cottage. They had five children. He had a brother who went to Toronto and another who was with the railways in Stockton. |
