Personal Notes:

Kate and Thomas Hitchman's only son Harold Roy was born at Carlisle Street, Leichhardt on 28 Aug 1884. He was educated in England and prior to World War I, was an accountant with the British Colonial Forces in Suva. In Sydney he worked for Kent, Brierley & Sully, well-known accountants. On 30 Api 1914 Harold wed Lilian May DALEY born on 17 Mar 1888. He worked with Kerry & Co, noted photographers of George Street, Sydney, later forming a photographic supply company, H.R Hitchman & Co with premises in Castlereagh Street. As did thousands of others, he went broke in the depression and had several jobs until he joined the Army in March 1940. Harold worked with 2nd Military District Echelon Records until 1946 as a photographer, attaining the rank of Warrant Officer 1/C. Bill Bathgate said Harold was a gentleman, a kind man who was "quite a guy". He lived all his married life at Mosman and retired shortly after leaving the army. Aged almost 86, Harold died in May 1970.
