STANGER, Myrtle Ivy, 48 Mary Street, Charters Towers. Myrtle Johnstone was born on 9th March, 1916, at Pandanus on the Kirk Goldfield. She was the third daughter of David and Ivy (Willich). After leaving High School in Charters Towers she obtained employment at Charles D. Stapleton's Tea Store in Gill Street. Later she worked for Archie Anderson at Hollimans. In 1942 she married Thomas Stanger one of the well known family of Motor Dealers in Charters Towers. Tom's parents were George and Helen (Burns). After returning from military service, Tom in partnership with brother Frank, commenced operating a garage in Mosman Street. In 1955 he joined the staff of Dalrymple Shire Council as Works Supervisor. He retired in 1976 and died in 1979. In recognition of his 21 years service to the Shire, the workshop at the new Dalrymple Shire Complex on the Flinders Highway has been named "Tom Stanger Workshop".
