| Personal Notes: |
|
At 19 he was sentenced to life for stealing a horse and sent to Australia, arriving there on the ship the Albion February 14, 1827.
He married Jane Thompson May 2, 1839 in St Lukes Church of England, Liverpool, NSW, Australia. The had the following children: James, William Alexander, Eliza Ann, John, Caroline, Richard, Mary Jane, and Charles Armitage. He was buried at Cooranbong R/C Cemetery, Church of England Section .......................................................................................................................................... "Cooranbong Cemetery - Roman Catholic" is now referred to as St Patrick's and St Brigid's FAG ID 2597526). It has first recorded burial 1861, and the nearby Cooranbong Anglican Churchyard Cemetery (this was St John's but no trace of that church remains now) opened in 1867. It seems logical that James Armitage stated to be buried in 1865 in the Church of England section of the RC Cemetery would refer to somewhere in the St Patrick's and St Brigid's churchyard. It is suggested to change the "Burial" reference to St Patrick's and St Brigid's. As well as likely being correct, it would enable at least a churchyard photo to be included in lieu of a grave photo. The RC church in 1860s was used as a non-denominational school, perhaps suggesting further that a a C of E burial would have been accepted in the church yard. Contributor: RonMate (49832066) |
