DEATH OF MR. JAMES RUDD.
The death of Mr. James Rudd, grazier, of Wagingoberembee station, which occurred yesterday morning, came as a surprise to the residents of the district. Mr. Rudd visited Wagga towards the end of last week, and returned to the station, a distance over forty miles, by vehicle as usual. On reaching home he complained of suffering from a cold, which he contracted during the drive, the weather at the time being cold. Upon arrival at home he went to bed early, and as matters did not improve, Dr. Mitchell, of Narandera, was summoned, and treated the patient. On Wednesday Mr. Rudd was taken worse, and was confined to his room, the cold settling internally. He appeared fully convinced that his malady would prove fatal, expressing that belief shortly before death, which occurred at half-past 8 o'clock yesterday morning. Mr. Rudd leaves a wife and family of three sons (James Isidore, Arthur, and Frank) and three daughters, one of which is at home, one at school, and one at West Maitland. His father became possessed of the Wagingoberembee property, which is situate on the Murrumbidgee, when Mr. Rudd was born, fifty-nine years since, the deceased gentleman managing the property for over forty years. The funeral will take place this day, and it is expected the remains will be interred this afternoon at the private cemetery at Wagingoberembee. It is expected that the clergy from Narandera will officiate, Wagingoberembee being much nearer that town than Wagga. Mr. Rudd was well known in the district as a stock bleeder, and paid occasional visits to Wagga. He was to all appearance in the enjoyment of the best of health, and his sudden illness and decease came as a great surprise to all with whom he was acquainted. Mr. Rudd reached his fifty-ninth birthday on Thursday last. We have received the following by telegram from Narandera : — Mr. James Rudd, owner of Wagingoberembee Station, died this morning. Deceased returned from Wagga last Thursday week, driving, and on his arrival home complained of having caught cold. Next day he went to bed, where he remained two or three days, and then got up again yesterday. He was again taken ill, and had to return to bed, one of his sons coming into Narandera for medical assistance. Dr. Mitchell went out and prescribed for the patient, who, however, grew steadily worse until half-past eight o'clock this morning, when he died. The deceased gentleman was 59 years of age. He has been at Wagingoberembee since he was 10 years old, the station being then the properly of his father. His father died in 1851, when he was 16, since which time the latter managed the station. Wagingoberembee is one of few stations on the Murrumbidgee which have never changed hands. Deceased leaves three sons and three daughters, all being grown up except one. Deceased came from Campbelltown originally ; his brothers John and Isaac own Colombo Plains and Morundah stations; another brother, William, resides at Campbelltown, while a fourth brother, Thomas, was until recently manager of the Bank of New South Wales at Grafton.
