OBITUARY — —
DEATH OF MRS. JANE MOUNT.
Another of the old identities of Tumut passed away at her residence, "Rose Cottage" Tumut Plains Road, on Friday morning last at 2.15, death being due to heart trouble. She had reached the ripe old age of 80 years. She had been suffering from heart affection for the past 5 years, off and on, Dr. Clouston invariably giving the patient relief previously, by his prompt attention to calls for his services. She was confined to bed for a fortnight before she died, and was given all the nursing care and medical attention that was possible. Deceased was born at Berrima, and came to Tumut when about 5 years old, the late Mr. Thos. Lindbeck, of Mondongo, being her guardian. Later she engaged with Mr. William Shelley, of ''Woonona,'' and it was from there that she went to Adelong to marry Mr. William Mount, at the age of 19. Mr. Mount was then on Forest Camp, Tumut Plains, and there they resided for 40 years, engaged in farming pursuits. The subject of this obituary was a clever nurse, Particularly in obstretic cases, which she practised even while she was resident of Tumut Plains and later, 22 years ago, when they came to live near Tumut in the home in which she died. She was noted for her great kindness of heart to friends and neighbours and for the charitable proclivities which endeared her to all with whom she came in contact as well as to a legion of friends. And all was done with no direct object of pecuniary reward or recompense. Her life was centred first in the welfare of her husband and the rearing of her family, yet she found time for all these appreciated acts, ministering to the sick and needy. There are two surviving daughters, Mrs. Wm. Emery (Susie), and Mrs. Arthur Nuttall (Martha), and one son, Charles William, all of Tumut. One daughter (Ada); predeceased her by 28 years. The funeral took place on Saturday last, Rev F. W. Rettie, Rector of All Saints, performing the last sad rites at the grave. The casket-bearers were six grandsons, viz: George and Ray (twins) Mount, William Mount, Herbert Emery, Alfred Emery and Percy Nuttall. The remains were laid to rest in the C. of E portion of the New Cemetery alongside those of her husband, who died 18 years ago. There are 16 grandchildren (including Mr. Herb Mount of Tumut) and 6 great grandchildren living.
