John, d. 20-01-191l, Age: 70yr Section: Catholic, Old Adaminaby Inscriptions: Sacred to the Memory of John Bourke Died 20 Jan l91l Aged 70 Years May He Rest in Peace Obituaty: Catholic Press, Thursday 2 February 1911 DEATH OF MR JOHN BOURKE, KIANDRA On Friday moming, January 20; the death of Mr. John Bourke, of Kiandra took place at the residence of his brother-in-Law, Mr. M.J. Russell, Cubmurra. The deceased gentleman, who was in the 70th year of his age, was a native of County Clare lreland, and came to Ausbalia about 40 years age. Afterwards he went to the Kiandra goldfields, where his brother, William, carried on business as a hotel and storekeeper. A few years later the brothers moved to the Tumut distict, where they secured Blowering Station, now the property of Mr. Frank Bourke, The late Mr. Bourke matried Johanna youngest daughter of the late William Russell, of the Denison Hotel, but, owing to the Tumut climate causing his wife's health to become fiail, he decided to dispose of his interests in the properly to his brother, and retum to Kiandra where he had been closely identified with mining ever since. Deceased, who was well-known and highly-respected by all classes of the communily, was a devout Catholic, and was attended during his illness by the Very Rev. Father Notris, P.P., V. G., Cooma who administered the lNtrites of the Church. The fineral which was largelyattended, tookplace on Saturdayaftenoon, when the remains were laid to rest beside those of his son John, who predeceased his father some 17 years, in the Adaminaby Cemetery. Mrs. Bourke survives her husband, also two children, viz., Willie and Lizzie, who, together with a large circle of relatives and friends, mourn the loss of a good, kind, husband, father, and friend, Sergeant P. Bourke, of Redfem, is a brother of deceased, and the late Father King is a nephew. - RIP. |
