Personal Notes:

John Flanigan and Ann McNeil both migrated from Ireland. Ann was a widow. In 1872 & 1874 John Flanigan bought land at Harefield. The Pattersons lived near them. Ann died in 1881 and is buried in Old Junee Pioneer cemetery. She has one of the few remaining head and foot stones at the cemetery.

- Notes: I also have seen a listing of the convicts on board that does not contain his name but I believe I have seen Flanigan on the ship's muster and indent and the archives have an application by Ann to marry him as a convict which was approved. The archives also hold tickets of leave and two certificates of freedom. Confusing though is that he is initially recorded as sentenced to 7 years but the permission to marry was given 11 years after he arrived, ie 1842. It also notes him as being a lifer. The first record of a certificate of freedom though was in 1838 which accords with the 7 year sentence. Then there is a second in 1844 which may perhaps have been a copy requested then. There is also a ticket of leave in 1840 allowing him to work in the area where he married Ann and where they lived for some years. By 1840 he should have been a free man. All rather confusing and I began to think I was dealing with more than one John Flannigan or Flannigan. I will do as you suggest and purchase the marriage and death certificates and keep searching.
