The son of Joseph and Ann nee Brooks, John and Sarah nee White on 1 Jul 1837 at St. Mary's Sydenham, in Oxfordshire, England
In 1843 John and Sarah emigrated to the colony with their four (4) children, Mary Ann, Sarah, John, and Thomas. Young Thomas died on the journey. Traveling as assisted immigrants the family arrived in Port Jackson, Sydney on 29 Apr 1844 Sydney on the ship "United Kingdom". John and Sarah's family was blessed with 5 (five), more children, Elizabeth, Emma, Joseph, Spencer William, and James Thomas. The Manaro Mercury, and Cooma and Bombala Advertiser (NSW: 1862 - 1931) Wed 3 Sep 1879 Page 4 Obituary.— Mr. John Groves, senior, died at his residence, Bombala, early on Tuesday, Aug.26th. Mr Groves has been a resident of the Manaro for the past 36 years, but for the last fifteen years, he has been a sufferer both bodily and mentally. The deceased leaves behind him a large and respectable family of grown-up sons and daughters, the majority of them being natives of Manaro. Bombala Times. |
