Marriage in Aberford 29 January 1834 between John Gilliam and Ann Greenwood (you will see why I identified Greenwood below). 1841 Census Saxton: John Gilliam aged 35, Anne aged 30, Mary aged 6, Joseph aged 3, Anne aged 2. 1851 Census Saxton: John Gilliam aged 45 Stone Mason born Saxton; Ann aged 43 Wife born Thorner; Joseph aged 13 Son born Saxton; Ann aged 12 Daughter born Saxton; Hannah aged 8 Daughter born Saxton; Sarah aged 7 Daughter born Saxton; Grace aged 5 Daughter born Saxton; John Copley aged 20 Stone Mason’s Apprentice born Sherburn. 1861 Census Saxton: John Gilliam aged 55 Stone Mason born Saxton; Ann aged 54 Wife born Thorner; Grace aged 15 Daughter born Saxton; George Greenwood aged 19 Nephew Mason’s Apprentice born Shippon. 1871 Census Saxton: John Gillium aged 65 Stone Mason born Saxton; Ann aged 64 Wife born Thorner; Mark Land aged 52 Lodger (same table) Agricultural Labourer born Burton; John Warrington aged 34 Lodger (same table) Agricultural Labourer born Saxton. Died 4 August 1880 aged 74 (see Death Certificate). So this gives the following children: Joseph b c1838, Ann b c 1839, Hannah b c 1843, Sarah b c 1844, Grace b c 1846. I believe that the Mary aged 6 who was on the 1841 census with Joseph (1742-1842) also belongs to this family and is, in fact, the first child, born c 1835/6, also that she is the one who went on to marry William Davis. I haven’t been able to find her in 1851 so far. |
