OBITUARY MRS. CHARLES SMILES The death occurred at her residence at Newtown, Tumut, on 4th December, of one of the town's oldest residents in the person of Mrs. Martha Smiles, widow of the late Mr. Charles Smiles, at the great age of 90 years. The late Mrs. Smiles spent her 90th birthday on 26th October last and had been active up till the last. One of her chief enjoyments was a night at the pictures every week. Deceased was born at Wondalga in 1855 and was a daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. W. Reily, of that locality. She is survived by one son, Charles (Tumut), and seven daughters, Mrs. W. Feint (Julia), Tumut; Mrs, W. Kellaban (Elizabeth ), Wagga; Mrs. H. Elphick (Martha), Mrs. W. Duggan (Selina), Mrs. R. McAlister (Margaret), Mrs. R. Stubbs (Emily), Mrs. W. Arentz (Myrtle), all of Tumut. Her husband predeceased her by 24 years. Also surviving are stepbrothers, Edward Beck, of Sydney, and Richard, of Tumut; and one step-sister, Mrs. Paterson, of Batlow. There are 36 grandchildren, 47 great-grandchildren and four great great-grandchidren. The funeral took place on the 5th December, the cortege leaving her late residence for the Catholic portion of the new cemetery. The Rev. Father Cummins officiated at the graveside and Mr. H. Baker carried out the funeral arrangements. The pall-bearers were Messrs. W . Arentz, W. Stubbs, Les Kilduff, Ron Davis, Dick Beck and C. Hibbens. A vast number ot telegrams of sympathy were received.
