A MANLY MARRIAGE. Martha Ellen Jones, formerly Weatherstone, a domestic servant, sought a divorce from Benjamin Jones, a quarryman, on the ground of desertion. Petitioner deposed to having married the respondent in 1891 at the Congregational Church, Manly. They set up house on the time-payment system, and her husband behaved very well for about three months, when he began to drink. As a result she was unable to keep up the payments on the furniture, and so had to relinquish it. The respondent subsequently left her, and she came to Sydney and took a situation in Oxford-street. While there, he came and wanted money. She asked him to make a home for her, and he replied that it would be of no use until he secured employment. Subsequently at Manly she saw him several times drunk, and endeavored to get him home. He told her to mind her own business, and added, 'I'll go home when I like.' That was in 1892. Two years later she went to a situation at Boggabri, and while there her husband, who had been in the town, called on her. That was the last time she saw him. She was at present employed at Tamworth. His Honor granted a decree nisi, to be made absolute in three months.

- Notes: This is the Martha Ellen Weatherstone on your tree. In the late 1800s, Martha was married to and then divorced my husband's grandfather Benjamin Jones. That man was a walking red flag and the marriage was horrible, as apparently was the divorce (Trove has a decent record). I believe Martha may have been disowned or was hiding from Ben (there's some subtext that suggested he stalked her). Martha was buried in Goulburn under Weatherstone-Jones. They had a child, Stanley.
