The daughter of Mary and Garrit Curran of New Ross, County Kilkenny, Ireland.
Mary Ann arrived in Port Jackson, Sydney, on 16 Sep 1841 on the ship Gilbert Henderson. She married George Lewison on 28 Aug 1843 in Mount Cooper, NSW in a Church of England ceremony. She and George had ten (10) children, George S., Richard, Charles, George, Charlotte F., Harriet, Edward, Henry, Susannah, and, John.

The old Bega Cemetery closed in Jun 1905. All of the headstones were moved to the present Bega Cemetery location. The remains of the deceased were left at the Old Bega Cemetery and the High School was built over them.
