The Tumut and Adelong Times 16 Aug 1927
DEATH OF MRS. RIDLEY Another of our oldest local residents, in the person of Mrs. Ridley sr., passed away on Thursday morning last. To live to her great age, 87 years, one must naturally have had a strong constitution, and her death was just like the flickering out of a candle that burns itself to the end of its wick, as the old lady had been just gradually weakening from senile decay for quite a long time. During the whole of her illness she was tenderly nursed by her daughter, Mrs. P. Corcoran, who attended to every need, and did everything possible that loving hands could do for her aged mother. For over sixty years Mrs. Ridley had been a resident of Adelong, coming here in the roaring days or the gold fever, and remained a resident ever since. She was an Australian native, having been born in Sydney, which place she left to come to Adelong. She was a kindhearted old lady, and would go a long way out of her path to asssist any cases of sickness amongst residents of the district, and was always esteemed by her neighbors. Her eldest son, Fred, died some years ago in West Australia, and the remaining children are Mrs. P. Corcoran, Messrs. Robert, Wal and Lou Ridley. The remains were laid in their last resting place in the Adelong Cemetery on Friday afternoon last.
