Personal Notes:
Mary Barrett arrived on one of the ‘Bride’ ships. She was a free woman who came out to be married. A scheme organised by the London Emigration Committee to send lower middle class women from Britain to Australia to fill the need for marriageable women. She arrive on the Duchess of Northumberland in 1835 and like most, she was married almost on disembarkation.

Several Ancestry trees have this woman listed (without evidence) as a convict. She was not a convict.
