Death of and old Monaro Resident.
NEARLY 100 YEARS OF AGE.
A Jindabyne correspendent supplies the following account of the death of an old Manaro resident :- A very old and highly respected resident of this district in the person of Mrs. Jeremiah Spellman, passed peacefully away at the residence of her daughter, Mrs. H Filtness, Pleasant View, Jindabyne on Thursday, 19th July, aged 97 years.
The decessed lady was a native of Ireland. She sailed for Australia in 1855 and proceeded to Monaro and settled in the Cooma district where she lived for several years. She then went to live with her daughter, Mrs. Filtness, at whose residence she lived for some 30 years prior to her demise. The deceased lady had been ailing for some time past, and as there were no hopes of her reoovery, her death was not unexpected. She had been kindly and tenderly watched during her weary time of illness by her loving daughter, Mrs. Filtness.
Mrs. Spellman, from her kind and generous nature, proved herself a friend to all who chanced to come in contact with her. She leaves three daughters and one son, together with a great number of grandchildren to mourn their loss. She was buried in the Roman Catholic portion of the cemetery at Moonbah on 21st July. The funeral was largely attended by her numerous relatives and friends, who came from far and near to pay the last tribute of respect to one who had been for so many years honoured and esteemed by all who knew her.
Buried 21 Jul 1900 Moonbah Cemetery, Moonbah, New South Wales
