Personal Notes:

Freemans’ Journal 19 May 1923 Moonbah.On Friday, April 20, quite a gloom was cast over the whole district when it became known that Miss Nellie Power had passed away the previous night in Cooma Hospital. Although the deceased young lady had been ailing for some weeks, her death was quite unexpected, and therefore a great shock to her many relatives and numerous friends. Miss Mary Ellen Power, who was 21 years ofage, was the eldest daughter of Mr. William Power, of Moonbah, her mother and a brother and sister having predeceased her. She was the mainstay of her father's home, and at an early age had the care of two young sisters and two brothers, and her death and the heavy loss are all the more sad when it is remembered that she was making final arrangements for her marriage, which was to have taken place in a few weeks. Our sympathy goes out in full to the bereaved relatives and to her fiance, as they all mourn their loss very deeply. Deceased was a member of the Hibernian Society, and the funeral on Saturday was very largely attended, the members of the society being present in full regalia. The remains were conveyed from the hearse to the grave by four brother members, while the other members formed a mournful procession, the regalia of the deceased, being placed on the coffin. The Very Rev. Dean Norris,of Cooma, attended the funeral and officiated at the graveside of one of the saddest burials ever witnessed here. The Dean, in a few well-chosen words, expressed sympathy with the bereaved, and referred in very kindly terms to the exemplary life which had been so early cut off, but as it is our Divine Lord's will we must not mourn our dead.
