Riverine Grazier 2 Nov 1945
Mrs. M. J. Bayliss. There passed away, somewhat suddenly, on Wednesday afternoon, at her residence in Orson Street, Hay, Mrs. Mary Jane Bayliss, widow of the late Mr. George Bayliss, and the mother of a particularly well known and respected family in the Wanganella, Booroorban and Hay districts. Deceased, whose maiden name was Mary Jane Elliott, was born at Merino (Victoria) and was in her 87th. year. She was married to Mr. George Bayliss at Deniliquin, and they made their home at Wanganella. Later Mr. Bayliss secured the well known Elmsleigh property in the Booroorban district, which he held until his death at Hay in 1919. Since then Mrs. Bayliss has resided with her daughter, Miss Betty, at Hay. Mrs. Bayliss is survived by a family of three sons and two daughters. They are, William (Hay), George (Deniliquin) and Herbert (Romani), Florence (Mrs. Breakell, Sydney), and Miss Betty. Two daughters, Hilda (Mrs. T. Davies) and Nancy (Mrs. Walton) pre-deceased her. The funeral took place yesterday afternoon, following a service in St. Paul's Pro-Cathedral. The services at the Church and at the graveside were conducted by Rev. W. G. Bennett (Narandera), nephew of the deceased, assisted by Rev. R. L. Kerdel. There was a good attendance of friends of the bereaved family and many beautiful floral tributes were tendered in sympathy. Mr Ron Wall carried out the funeral arrangements. |
