ACCIDENT TO MR. C. PERRY. ,
A serious accident occurred at Mirani, yesterday to Mr. Charles Perry, an old and highly respected member of this community. About five miles from the township the horse Mr. Perry,, senr., was riding got its foot entangled in some barbed wire lying hidden in the grass, and in the animal's endeavours to rid himself of the obstacle "Mr. Perry was thrown heavily against a tree and severely injured. Mr. Jim Perry returned with all haste to Mirani, where he obtained assistance and brought the old gentleman into the town. The Ambulance having been summoned from Mackay, the injured man was conveyed to his home in Brisbane street. The accident happened at 1 o'clock, and the Ambulance returned at 6.30. OBITUARY.
It is our sad duty to chronicle the
death of Mr. Charles Perry, who
as reported yesterday, was thrown
from a horse against a sapling at
Mirani on Sunday, the injuries caus-
ing death, which took place at 2
o'clock yesterday afternoon. The late
Mr. Perry had reached the advanced
age of 75 years, and up to the time
of his accident was very active for
one who had so long passed the al-
lotted span of life. Deceased was
associated with the history of Mac-
kay for over 40 years, having arrived
here overland with stock for Mr. G.
F. Bridgmann. He was engaged in
station work over the range for many
years, and afterwards entered upon
hotel keeping both at the top of the
range and in Mackay. Some years
ago he retired from active life, and
has since been residing here privately.
On Sunday he was visiting his son
at Mirani, and riding quietly along
when the accident took place. He
was brought into town, but despite
every care, medical and otherwise, he
gradually sank,; and passed away at
2 o'clock yesterday afternoon-'. De
ceased, who was a native of England,
leaves a widow and two sons, Messrs..
James (Mirani), and George Vincent
(Mackay). An only daughter (Mrs.
G. Beresford) died a few years ago.
A sorrowful circumstance is that de
ceased's youngest son, Charles, was
killed in the eighties in a similar
manner, by being thrown from a horse
against a tree on the top of the
range. The funeral takes place at
11.30 this morning.
