OBITUARY
MR. J. SNEDDON.
The funeral of Mr: James Sneddon, sen., one of the oldest members of the Miners' Federation, of which his father was a founder, took place yesterday to the Beresfield, Crematorium. Sons acted as pallbearers, ,and Rev W. Young, of Hamilton Presbyterian Church officiated.
Mr Sneddon, who was 87, was a native of Hamilton. His father, the late Mr. James Sneddon migrated from Scotland 88 years ago to work in the Borehole (Hamilton) colliery of the Australian Agricultural Company. At nine he joined his father in the Borehole pit and from then until his retirement he was employed at the A.A. Company's Sea Pit (now closed), Minmi, and at mines under the ownership of the Caledonian Collieries Ltd., during the management of Mr. Duncan MeGeachie. His retirement had been spent at Belmont, and latterly at Medowie. Mrs. Sneddon, who was born at Newcastle, survives. She is 82. The sons are Joseph (Newcastle), James (Medowie), Edward (Belmont colliery), William (Bellbird), ,Harold and Walter, both employed at Aberdare Extended colliery. The daughter is Mrs. A. Wells (Cessnock).

OBITUARY
LATE MR. JAMES SNEDDQN
A former well-known identity of the Cessnock district, Mr. James Sneddon, of Medowle, passed away at the Newcastle Hospital on September 27. The late Mr. Sneddon was born at Broadmeadow 63 years ago. He came to Cessnock in 1907 and was employed at Aberdare until the colliery closed down some years ago. After leaving Cessnock he took a selection at Medowie and started a citrus and stone fruit orchard which Is now regarded as one of the best in that district.
The late Mr. Sneddon was a member of the first A.I.F. He left Australia as a private and while overseas attained the rank of Lieutenant. After the war he married Miss E. Lambert, of Adamstown. His wife predeceased him two years ago. While a resident of South Cessnock, the late Mr. Sneddon spent many hours working and planning for the improvement of the Kearsley Park in that area.
He is survived by his son and daughter-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. William Sneddon, of Medowie; his mother, Mrs. C. Sneddon of O'Brien-street, Cessnock; a sister, Mrs. Wells, of Cessnock, and five brothers, Joseph (Adamstown), Edward (Belmont), William -(Raymond Terrace), and Harold and Walter, of Cessnock.

Mrs. C. SNEDDON
The death occurred last week of Mrs. Catherine Sneddon at the residence of her son Walter, of Cessnock. The deceased lady was 89 years old, and was born at Lake Road, Newcastle and has resided in the Newcastle ,and Lower Hunter area all her life. She was esteemed for her kindly neighbourly disposition,by all who knew her, and joined readily in the districts she resided, in helping to promote their social and patriotic advancement. After her marriage she went to live at Broad meadow and then later to Cessnock. From there the family went to Belmont and Medowie and remained at the latter place till shortly after the death of her husband who predeceased her about 8 years ago. She is survived by five sons — Messrs, Joseph (Adamtown), Edward, (Belmont),. William (Raymond Terrace); Harold and Walter (Cessnock) and one daughter Cassle, Cessnock. (Also surviving her are 24 grand children and 34 great grand children. The funeral was held at Beresfield crematorium where the Rev. D. W. Hall conducted the services
