Word has been received by Mrs
Hornung of the death of her
nephew Donald Cameron junr.;
a farmer residing near Ayr from
influenza at the age of 47 years.
It appears that deceased, who was
a fine robust man, went into Ayr
at night to obtain medical aid for his
wife and got a chill. He was a
native of Bowen and leaves a wife
and eight children to morn
his loss.

Still another death occurred last night
in the person of Mr Alex. Cameron, who
passed away at the District Hospital, to
which institution he was taken on Monday
night in a very critical condition (says the
“Delta Advocate”). Deceased, who was
only 43 years of age, was a brother to Mr
Donald Cameron, whose death was report
ed last week, and a son of Mr. Donald Cam
eron, of 'Clunes.” He leaves a wife and
four children, the eldest being 13 years
and the youngest 13 months, and who are
at present alt down with the complaint.

DEATH OF A BOWEN PIONEER
An old and respected pioneer resi
dent of the district in the person of
Mr Donald S. Cameron, “Clunes,”
passed away peacefully on Thursday
morning last at the age of 78
years (says “Delta Advocate”).
Deceased, who was born in Inver
ness, Scotland, arrived in Victoria
in 1847. In ’63 he came up as far
as Rockhampton, and after spend
ing a couple of years there, came to
Bowen to join his brother, who was
at that time Manager of Strathmore
Station. After 2 years of station
life the late Mr Cameron went into
business as a career in Bowen, and
was also mail contractor for the
Ayr district, the mails being brought
to Clare. In 1878 he arrived in
Ayr and made several trips with
maize from Lilliesmere. (Kalamia)
to Rayenswood, Ch. Towers and
adjoining stations, being far away
from his home from six to eight
months at a time. He gave up
carrying in 1890 and went in for
stock raising and farming on the
portion now held by Mr D. Ahern,
and also took up a Selection at the
Rocks. He later made “Clunes”
his home and resided there up to
the time of his death. The deceas
ed had been ailing for the past four
years and had a wonderful memory
up till the last, telling many stir
ring tales of the days when the
Lower Burdekin was almost a wil
derness, and the dangers of the
aboriginals in their wild state. The
late Mr Cameron reared a family of
eight children, but death has taken
four, one of the daughters, Mrs
Fred Payard, falling a victim to
typhoid fever a few years ago,
while his son George. was killed In
the battle of Bullecourt, and Donald
and Alex died within a week of
each other influenza last year,
each leaving widows and large
families. The members of the
family still living are Mr Robt.

deepest sympathy is expressed
The funeral which took place on
Thursday afternoon, was a large
and representative one, Rev. Allen
